My Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Justin Brown and I am a sophomore here at North Central College. I am currently doing a double major in Business Economics and Accounting and wrestle here as well. I have wrestled since I was in 6th grade but I also have other hobbies such as skating, reading, and a small amount of gaming with friends. I live in Bolingbrook, Illinois which is about a 20 minute commute to North Central everyday. I currently live with my grandparents but I do have 3 other half-siblings. My older sister is 20 and currently goes to the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. I have a younger brother who is about to turn 12 and a younger sister who just turned 6. I've loved watching movies with family and friends ever since I was a young kid and I love to take the messages from movies and try to apply them to my everyday life.

Going from that, I would love to mention that my favorite movie was Good Will Hunting starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, and Minnie Driver. Although that there are many movies that I have loved over the years, this one just set in a little deeper after watching it. The small comedy relief throughout the emotional plot makes the movie a very good watch and kept my attention the whole time while also teaching me multiple valuable lessons in life. Some movies may just include one message but I seemed to take a lot away from this movie such as believing in myself, using the talents god has given me, trying to figure out who I am, and putting passion into everything I do. I think it is these messages that really make people think about a movie multiple times and makes them watch again. Hopefully this persuades you to check this movie out because it's a good one for sure.

Comments

  1. Movies that provide a valuable lesson are some of my favorite kinds of movies because I think that I can actually take something away from the film and have an enjoyable experience on top of viewing the movie. I know every once and a while I will watch movies like "Never Back Down" or "Miracle" because of the messages they give off that have personally helped me grow as a person and athlete when I played hockey. Thank you for sharing!

The Swiss Army Man

Recently in my film class we watched Swiss Army Man directed by The Daniels. Before getting into the editing, cinematography, and story of the film, I would like to give a brief plot description.  Swiss Army Man is considered a comedy/drama film. The movie tells the story of a man named Hank played by Paul Dano, who is stranded on a deserted island and is about to commit suicide when he discovers a dead body washed up on the shore, played by Daniel Radcliffe. Hank discovers that the body, whom he names Manny, has the ability to talk and has various strange and useful abilities, such as expelling water from his mouth like a fountain, propelling things with his flatulence (farting), and even exhibiting a strong erection that points in the direction of home. As Hank attempts to use Manny's strange abilities to help him survive and find his way back home, the two form an unlikely friendship. Throughout the movie, Hank and Manny engage in surreal conversations and ...

Rear Window: Best Shots/Angles

Rear Window, which is about a photographer named L.B. Jeffries that recently got injured trying to get  a good shot on a racetrack. He ended up getting hit by one of the race cars and it put him in a wheel chair for several weeks. While he was stuck in his apartment due to his injury, he would constantly look out his window at the neighboring apartments and see what was happening within his neighbor's life. He suddenly noticed something very suspicious when one of his neighbor's wives went missing. This neighbor was named Lars Thorwald and Lars was constantly doing suspicious activity such as leaving his apartment multiple times a day with a suitcase. L.B Jeffries then tried to convince his girlfriend, Lisa Fremont, and his detective friend, Thomas Doyle, that Lars had murdered his wife and was trying to dispose of her body. The detective was very doubtful at first but once Lisa Fremont snuck into Lars' apartment and found evidence of the crime, Dt. Thomas Doyle...

Good Will Hunting: Cinematography

One of my favorite films of all time is Good Will Hunting directed by Gus Van Sant. This movie tells the story of a man named Will Hunting who is a brilliant yet troubled young man from Southern Boston. He works as a janitor at the prestigious school Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Despite the fact that Will does not have any formal education past high school, Will has a genius level intellect and is able to solve very complex math problems that have stumped even some of the math professors at MIT. His talents though are recognized by a math professor at MIT by the name of Gerald Lambeau. Professor Lambeau wants Will to recognize his talents and potential. As mentioned, Will is a troubled teen and got into a fight with some guys who bullied him as a kid. As part of his sentence for the altercation, Will is required to attend therapy sessions with Lambeau, who eventually turns Will over to Lambeau's old friend Sean Maguire. Through a series of therapy se...
