Our Film: The Comeback Kid

The film that my group decided to make was actually based on a true story. I would like to describe the plot to my readers and let them know how we plan to put this onto a screen. Javen is currently a sophomore wrestler at North Central College and he is having a great season while training hard. He has his sights set one winning a national title, but there's one opponent that he's particularly worried about: a rival wrestler named Hayden who beat him earlier in the season. Despite his loss to Hayden, Javen tries to stay focused and determined to be the best wrestler he can be. He also studies Hayden's style and technique, looking for weaknesses to exploit. As the season progresses, Javen faces many other opponents and wins all of those matches be he can't shake the memory of losing to Kyle. Finally, the national tournament comes around and the day to revenge his loss to Hayden is going to be in the National Finals. This match is very intense with both wrestlers giving it their all. At first, it seems like Kyle has the upper hand but Javen doesn't give up. He remembers the strategies he's been practicing to use against Kyle and eventually catches Kyle in a tricky move and manages to pin him down. This victory is a big relief for Javen, who has went through tough training, both mentally and physically. Javen was so ecstatic and grateful for all the hard work he put in throughout the season.

In our development of the plot, we wanted to involve certain characteristics that follow a common sports film genre. The three things we put our main focus on was the character development of Javen, the training and preparation that Javen went through, and the big match at the end. The character development of Javen will give the audience a good identity of who to root for throughout the film. Since our film was a short film, it was very easy for the audience to tell who the story is about since he was in every scene. The character development is following Javen through his journey onto the other aspect we focused on: the training and preparation for the big match. Javen went through rigorous training and to get ready for that big match at the end. Flowing right from the character development to the training and preparation comes the big match at the end that will have the audience invested into what happens at the end of the story. We had a traditional ending with Javen winning his final match. Which is what happens in real life as well. We tried to do our best filming, cinematography, and editing throughout this film yet we know it was not perfect considering we are all very new to film making. We feel as if our film flowed well and we put in good effort to make it all come to life on the screen.

Rear Window: Best Shots/Angles

Rear Window, which is about a photographer named L.B. Jeffries that recently got injured trying to get  a good shot on a racetrack. He ended up getting hit by one of the race cars and it put him in a wheel chair for several weeks. While he was stuck in his apartment due to his injury, he would constantly look out his window at the neighboring apartments and see what was happening within his neighbor's life. He suddenly noticed something very suspicious when one of his neighbor's wives went missing. This neighbor was named Lars Thorwald and Lars was constantly doing suspicious activity such as leaving his apartment multiple times a day with a suitcase. L.B Jeffries then tried to convince his girlfriend, Lisa Fremont, and his detective friend, Thomas Doyle, that Lars had murdered his wife and was trying to dispose of her body. The detective was very doubtful at first but once Lisa Fremont snuck into Lars' apartment and found evidence of the crime, Dt. Thomas Doyle...

Stanley Kubrick: The One Point View

Kubrick's One Point View            Often times, I think viewers don't understand what all goes into a film. Chapter 2 of Moving Pictures  emphasizes everything that happens in films, why they happen, and how it all comes together to make a film. There are many elements that are involved in making a film such as camera angles, editing, cinematic languages, transitions, and the meanings behind films. All of these elements are very important into making a good film but I want to get into the camera angles that goes into a film. Specifically, a legendary director's famous point of view called the one point view. This view gives a great shot of a full room or area in a film and gives a viewer "the bigger picture" of what is happening in a film.      Camera angles have a lot of influence on a film and bad camera angles can make a viewer interpret a film differently than a director may have intended. The same way good camera angels can ma...

Marie Antoinette: Mis-En-Scene

Access to Full Film      Marie Antoinette is a great film directed by Sofia Coppola about a young Austrian women who ends up becoming the queen of France by marrying a French Dauphin. Throughout the movie, there are many elements that Sofia Coppola used to create such an appealing film. I believe that throughout the film, there are a few messages that Coppola is trying to get across, such as accepting the life that is given to you, the impact of your decisions on other people, and enjoying the life you have. First, I believe that the message of accepting the life that is given to you is expressed through the beginning of the film when young Marie is sent off to France with no choice yet she seems to be unbothered by it all and just accepts the fate that her family chose for her. Second, I believe that the ending of the movie gives the message that you should think about the impact your decisions are making on other people. For example, if the queen were to not s...
